The MLA congratulates Luke Bergin from Ruswin in Queensland, the winner of the 2015 John Andrew Apprenticeship of the Year Award.
It was the Queenslander's again who dominated the placings this year, Luke finishing with 190 points and Aiden Binstead (186) from Keycut Services in Gladstone finishing a close second. Lisa Nottage (184) from Woodpend Hardware/Premier Locksmiths in Wayville, South Australia the second runner up.
Luke accepted his award at the Gala Dinner on the Saturday Night of the Conference. Ruswin representatives Stuart & Stan Neal and Glen Westhorp were also in attendance.
Luke commented on the great honor it was to receive this prestigious award and made special reference to the team at Ruswin.
"These guys took a chance on me when I finished high school and I'm so grateful for what they've done. They've set me up with a career and a life. I'd also like to thank the wonderful tradesman and tradeswomen that I've worked with and have learned new skills from".
"Winning this Award doesn't mean that this is the end of my journey, it's just the start of bigger things".
Luke joins Nicole Bornis (2011) as winners of the John Andrew Apprentice of the Year Award plying their trade at Ruswin.
It was a tight finish with one further picked cylinder or impressioned lock and one general knowledge answer separating the top three apprentices.
