Mount Isa Mines(MIM) operate two separate mining and processing streams, copper and zinc, to deliver natural resources that have enduring roles in society. With the largest zinc resource base and the biggest underground network of mines in the world, MIM provides work for almost 5,000 employees and contractors.
From the tiny copper connections in our mobile phones to the zinc used to galvanise industrial steel, the minerals MIM's mine play vital roles in our lives every day. As well as the Australian market, the products are exported to 16 countries across Asia, Europe and the United Kingdom, contributing billions of dollars to the Australian economy every year. In 2010, MIM were honoured to be inducted into the Queensland Business Leaders Hall of Fame in recognition of outstanding contribution to Queensland’s economic and rural development, and to the mining industry.
One of only a handful of Australian mines located on the doorstep of a community, MIM are dedicated to supporting local people and local businesses and creating strong links between the operations and the city of Mount Isa. MIM do this through generous contributions to local health, education, cultural and capacity building initiatives and the funding of vital public services and infrastructure development projects. Since 1924, MIM operations have been at the heart of life in “the Isa”.
